Purpose
We report the case of a bilateral iris and chorioretina coloboma
Setting
Ocular coloboma are important causes of childhood visual impairment and blindness. it can be seen in isolation and in an impressive number of multisystem syndromes . We report the case of a bilateral iris and
chorioretina coloboma
Methods
It is a 26 years old woman from a non consanguineous marriage , without any particular history. The patient underwent a complete ophthalmological examination including measurement of distance and near visual acuity with and without correction, anterior and posterior segment biomicroscopic examination.
Results
The ophthalmological examination revealed a visual acuity of 01/10 on the right and 2/10 on the left, with hyperopia of +8 in the right and +7 in the left .
The examination of the anterior segment showed a bilateral iris coloboma
The fundus examination of both eyes showed a very extensive chorioretinal coloboma corresponding to a rather well delimited whitish zone crossed by rare Blood vessels. On the left side, a papillary coloboma can be
observed .
The somatic examination to search a possible malformations or associated neurological disorders was normal.
Conclusion
Coloboma may involve various parts of the eye, including the iris, ciliary body, choroid, retina, and optic nerve. Classic defects include the partial absence of the inferior quadrant of the iris, choroid, and retina. Frequently associated ocular anomalies include cataract, microphthalmia, and anophthalmia. It can be sporadic or transmitted as an autosomal recessive, autosomal dominant or X-linked trait.
