Purpose
To assess how, and to what extent, patients’ baseline parameters may affect refractive, visual and quality of vision outcomes of using presbiopic IPCLs in Hypermetropic (with or without astigmatism) patients.
Setting
A retrospective, single-surgeon, consecutive case-series study. All patients underwent IPCL hypermetropic IOL (both types V 1.0 and V 2.0) in Doctor’s Shilova Clinic in Moscow, Russia
Methods
64 eyes (32 patients) with mean preoperative sphere of +1.57 ± 1.78 diopters (D) (range: +0.50 to +4.25 D) and cylinder ± 1.53 D (range: -0.5 to -3.75 D) underwent implantations of Hypermetropic IPCLs. Mean add was +1.25 ± 1.5 D. Patient age was above 40 years, (48 ± 8.7). Preoperative iridectomy was need in 75% cases. All parameters of anterior and posterior segment were measured, including lens transparency and retina status.
We evaluated refraction, far and near visual acuity, IOP, VOLT, lens transparency and subjective patients’ satisfaction - at 1 month, 1 year and 5 years after the treatment.
Results
Patients postoperative outcomes at 1 week indicated very high spherical equivalent refraction accuracy with 88% of eyes within ±0.25 D and 94% within ±0.50 D. In addition, 86% of eyes had a residual cylindrical error of not higher than ±0.50 D, and 100% were within ±1.00 D. Patients characterized by high target refractive correction, with high psevdoaccomodative values, stable IOP 14.3 ± 7.7 mmHg. No pigment dispersion or lens opaque determined. VOLT was 450 ± 120 мкрн.
Conclusion
In our study, implantations of Hypermetropic IPCLs for presbiopic patients showed highly predictable correction of hypermetropia and astigmatism, restore near vision without glasses.
