Purpose
To evaluate and compare clinical outcomes after Refractive Lenticule Extraction using FEMTO LDV Z8 (Ziemmer, Switzerland) and VisuMax 500 (Carl Zeiss, Germany) femtosecond laser systems for the myopia treatment
Setting
Fyodorov Eye Microsurgery Federal State Institution, Moscow, Russian Federation
Methods
We observed 84 eyes (84 patients) with low to moderate myopia who had undergone Refractive Lenticule Extraction procedure using the different femtosecond lasers FEMTO LDV Z8 (42 eyes – «CLEAR» group) and VisuMax 500 (42 eyes – «SMILE» group). All patients underwent complete refractive examination before and after surgery. Follow-up period was 6 months. The results are presented as Me (Q25; Q75)
Results
Postoperatively, in the «CLEAR» group the UDVA 20/20 or better was achieved in 93%, in the «SMILE» group - in 95,2% (p>0,05). In the «CLEAR» group, the gain of one or more lines of the CDVA was 16,7%, in the «SMILE» group - in 19% (p=0,04, Fisher's exact test). In the «CLEAR» group the predictability of targeted refraction within ±0,5 D was in 90,5%, within ± 1,0 D - in 100%, in the «SMILE» group - in 93% and 100%, respectively (p>0,05). The efficiency index in the «CLEAR» group was 1.00 (1,00; 1,00), in the «SMILE» group – 1,00 (1,00; 1,00) (p>0,05), the safety index was 1,00 (1,00; 1,00) and 1,00 (1,00; 1,00), respectively (p>0,05)
Conclusion
Refractive Lenticule Extraction using modern femtosecond laser platforms is effective, safe and predictable method for low to moderate myopia correction. The refractive and visual results demonstrated that there was no significant difference between the two groups
