PURPOSE: To know about the effectiveness of SMILE in High Myope.
SETTING: It is a Retrospective study of the patient who underwent SMILE in our hospital
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Retrospective study of the patient who underwent SMILE for surgical correction of myopia was reviewed. Only patients with spherical equivalent of subjective refraction (SE) > 6 D and post-operative follow-up of 6 months were included in this study. Uncorrected distant visual acuity (UCVA), Corrected distant visual acuity (CDVA), and SE were analyzed preoperatively and at 1 week, 4 week and 6 month post operatively.
RESULTS:180 eyes were included in the study. The mean SE pre operatively was -7.46 ±0.95 D. At the end of 6 month post operatively, the mean spherical equivalent was -0.018±0.08 D. The Proper Pre-op Workup, Patient selection, Good Surgical technique and Post op medications aids in achieving a good visual outcome.
CONCLUSION: The refractive outcome in 180 eyes of high myope who underwent SMILE were statistically significant. The Proper Pre-op Workup, Patient selection, Good Surgical technique and Post op medications aids in achieving a good visual outcome. In this study we have demonstrated that correcting high myopia with SMILE is safe and effective.
