Purpose
To assess visual acuity, refractive results, spectacle independence and patient’s satisfaction after trifocal toric intraocular lens (IOL) implantation after cataract surgery in astigmatic eyes (Vivinex Gemetric).
Setting
Oftalvist Valencia, Spain
Methods
This was a prospective, randomized, multicenter (10 centers), open-label bilateral study. 69 patients bilaterally implanted with the Vivinex Gemetric toric IOL were evaluated at 4-6 months post-surgery. Different toric models, from T2 to T5, as a function of the preoperative corneal astigmatism were used. We assessed spherical equivalent (SE), cylinder reduction, monocular uncorrected distance visual acuity (VA), achieved versus predicted residual refractive cylinder, binocular defocus curve, visual disturbances, patient’s satisfaction and spectacle use in binocular examination.
Results
Conclusions
The Vivinex Gemetric Toric trifocal IOL provides a wide range of vision at all distances from near to far with high spherical and cylindrical refractive predictability. The visual outcomes were associated with low rate of severe visual disturbances, high freedom from spectacles, and high satisfaction. The results obtained revealed that the residual error may influence patient satisfaction so that aggressive use of toric lenses may be beneficial.
