Purpose
To assess repeatability of Eyestar 900(ES900)( Haag-streit)in measuring various biometry parameters and its agreement with IOL master 700(IOL-M) (Carl Zeiss, Germany) and Lenstar LS 900(LS900) (Haag-Striet) in eyes with senile cataract.
Setting
After taking informed consent, patients undergoing cataract surgery were subjected to 3 scans during their diagnostic work up. Patients with other eye diseases were excluded from the study
Methods
110 eyes of 55 patients, underwent 3 scans on ES900, IOL-M and LS-900. Axial length (AL),Keratometry (k1,k2), Astigmatism (AST),anterior chamber depth(ACD), White to White (WTW), Central corneal thickness(CCT), Lens Thickness(LT) were used for comparison. Average readings of the parameters were assessed for repeatability of ES900 and agreement between the 3 biometers. Intraclass correlation(ICC) was used for assessing repeatability and agreement.
Results
Average age of patients was 62 yrs & 56% were males. ES900’s repeatability values were highly correlated for (AL,K1,K2,AST, ACD, WTW, CCT, LT) - ICC(0.9). Intermachine agreement between ES900, IOL-M & LS900 provided similar strong correlation in AL,K1,K2, AST, CCT, LT- ICC (0.9) & ACD ICC(0.85) but not for WTW- ICC (0.6).
Conclusions
Newer hybrid devices such as eyestar 900 can be used interchangeably with the gold standard LS 900 and IOL-M for biometry. Hybrid tools with multiple functionalities including topography, biometry can be useful in our refractive, cataract clinics.
