To evaluate our initial experience with the new Eyhance Toric intraocular lens for treatment of corneal astigmatism.
Private Refractive Surgery (Optical Express)
Outcomes of 247 patients who underwent cataract surgery or refractive lens exchange with unilateral or bilateral implantation of the TECNIS Eyhance Toric lens were reviewed. Age range of patients was 37 to 91 years with corneal astigmatism up to 6.00D. Preliminary one month clinical and patient-reported outcomes were analysed.
The mean binocular distance visual acuity was +0.05 logMAR (range -0.18 to 0.90 logMAR) and the mean binocular near visual acuity was +0.35 logMAR (range 0.00 to +1.30 logMAR). Mean gain in visual acuity lines was 5 for UCDVA and 5 for UCNVA. Lens position stability was excellent over time. Less than 8% of patients experienced severe difficulty with glare, halo or starburst. The vast majority of patients’ report being satisfied would recommend the treatment to family and friends. No intraoperative or early postoperative adverse events related to the IOL have been noted.
Initial outcomes suggest this new toric IOL is a good option for patients with corneal astigmatism who would also benefit from intermediate visual gain. This IOL outcomes showed a low incidence of visual phenomena at 1 month, as well as positive visual outcomes and patient satisfaction. A larger sample size with longer follow-up is warranted.
