Purpose
To compare accuracy of Precision toric digital marking system, a new smartphone and augmented reality based system with Verion digital guidance system for Toric IOL implantation.
Setting
Department of Cornea and External eye disease in a tertiary eye care centre.
Methods
In this prospective observational study 32 subjects were registered on the Verion. The subject eye was manually marked close to the limbus randomly in sitting position. Using the Precision toric android app, a baseline image was captured and wirelessly shared. It is processed in base computer which is connected to the video output from the microscope. The software calculates and gives degree value of ink mark axis. It also recursively calculates the toric axis and displays it as an overlay on the live video feed of the eye. The ink mark axis was measured with Verion digital overlay. Considering Verion as a gold standard the absolute angular deviation of ink mark axis measured by both systems were compared and analyzed.
Results
The study included 62 eyes of 32 subjects. The mean absolute angular deviation between the inkmark axis measured by Precision Toric and the Verion was 2.50 ± 2.05°, Median 2° ( 1-3° inter quartile range). The intraclass correlation between the Precision Toric and the Verion measurement of ink mark axis was 0.99, indicating a very strong positive agreement. No statistical difference was found between Precision toric and the Verion (p = 0.064).
Conclusions
Overall, this study provides valuable information on the accuracy of the Precison Toric system in comparison with Verion for determining the axis of IOL placement, which will help clinicians select the most reliable and effective approach for their patients.
