Purpose
To report the surgical and refractive outcomes of toric trans-scleral plug lens FIL SSF (Soleko, Italy) to correct aphakia in eyes with significant corneal astigmatism.
Setting
Palagi Hospital A.S.L. Toscana Centro
Methods
Observational study. Patient’s data including pre-operative and post-operative refractive status, complications during and after surgery were recorded
Intraocular lens tilt was evaluated using anterior segment (AS)- OCT ( C.S.O. Firenze). Wavefront analysis was performed using PSW-based Osiris-T aberrometer ( C.S.O. Firenze)
Results
Seven eyes of 5 patients underwent toric FIL SSF implantation were included; 4 eyes were affected by ectopia lentis; 3 eyes were aphakic after complicated cataract surgery. Pre-operative BCVA of 0.38 ± 0.24 improved after 8 months to 0.13 ± 12 logMAR (p<0.01). The mean postoperative residual sphere, cylinder, and spherical equivalent values were - 0.20 ± 0.39 D, - 0.29 ± 0.26 D, and -0.33 ± 0.41D respectively. Mean IOL tilt was 2.2° ±1.2° Mean disalignment from the axis of implantation was 3.6° ± 2.8° degrees.
Conclusions
This novel toric trans-scleral plug fixated lens provides valuable outcomes also for astigmatic correction for a comprehensive correction of the aphakia in patients with poor zonular support and high expectations for postoperative visual quality
