Purpose
To study the results of posterior iris fixated lens in children with ectopia lentis
Setting
Tertiary Care Centre
Methods
Children with large subluxation of lens who underwent lensectomy with posterior iris claw lens were prospectively evaluated over a period of two years. They underwent detailed paediatric evaluation along with appropriate testing. Full ophthalmic examination was done before and after surgery.
Results
12 patients (14 eyes) with a follow up of atleast 2 years were studied. Age of patients ranged from 5 to 16 years. Causes included marfan syndrome( 9/12 ) isolated ectopia lentis (2/12), homocysteinuria (1/12). All had atleast 8-9 clock hours of subluxation. In 10/14 eyes visual acuity improved after surgery. Disenclavation of one haptic, vitreous haemorrhage, and intercalary staphyloma occurred in one eye of each patient
Conclusions
Short term results indicate that posterior Iris claw lens is a reasonable option in ectopia lentis as visual outcome improves following surgery without risk of retinal detachment.
