Purpose

To report the real world outcomes on visual performance and patient satisfaction in patients implanted with an extended depth of focus Toric IOL, AcrySof IQ Vivity® Toric.

Setting

Sub-analysis of a multicenter, ambispective registry study conducted in Europe, Australia and New Zealand evaluating the performance of subjects bilaterally implanted with AcrySof IQ Vivity and AcrySof IQ Toric IOL in a real world setting through routine clinical practice.

Methods

321 subjects were implanted at least one eye with AcrySof IQ Vivity Toric IOL and the contralateral either with AcrySof IQ Vivity toric or non-toric after cataract or refractive lens exchange surgery.  At 3-6 months follow-up after the second eye surgery binocular uncorrected and corrected visual acuities at distance, intermediate (66 cm) and near (40 cm) were measured (UCDVA/BCDVA, UCIVA/DCIVA and UCNVA/DCNVA). Spectacle independence and subject satisfaction were evaluated using validated questionnaires, the IOLSAT and Catquest 9-SF questionnaires. Visual disturbances were also assessed through a non-prompted interview.

Results

Binocular mean (SD) (logMAR) UDVA 0.016 (0.105); UIVA 0.088 (0.113) and UNVA 0.256 (0.153). 82.9% and 80% of the subjects had ≤ 0.50 D of manifest refractive cylinder and manifest refractive spherical equivalent after surgery, respectively.  87.1% of the subjects reported never wearing glasses at distance, 76.3% at arm’s length and 46.6% at near and 91.3% are satisfied with their sight. More than 75% of the subjects reported no difficulties reading subtitles on TV. No halos, glare and starbursts were reported by 92.5%, 90.3% and 95.6%, respectively.

Conclusions

AcrySof IQ Vivity Toric shows stable refractive outcomes over time as well as very good distance, intermediate and functional near vision. Subjects also reported high levels of spectacle independence for distance and intermediate, and patients’ satisfaction with low levels of visual disturbances. AcrySof IQ Vivity Toric is a great option for astigmatic patients wishing to have less dependence of spectacles and low visual disturbances.
