Purpose
Ukrainian-Russian War is the first modern war in European Continent. Modern war needs using of high technologies and it is very important for combatants to have good visual aсuity and comfort vision. Even primary cataract, or refractive ammetropy, including presbyopia, can make great visual problems for militaries. Refractive lens exchange or phacoemulsification of cataract are operations of choice in combatant with ammetropy or initial cataract.
Setting
Methods
34 people (61 eye) were operated from the 24th of February. Mean age - 56±3,6 years. All patient had initial cataract, or ammetropy with corrected visual acuity not less than 8/10. Phacoemulsification with implantation of X-EDOF IOL (Vivity, Alcon) was performed in all cases. Operation and postoperative period were without any complications. Target refraction for all patients - emmetropia.
Results
In 57 cases we received uncorrected visual acuity 10/10, or better. In 4 cases uncorrected visual acuity was 9/10. In all 61 cases we received full patient's satisfaction in far and middle distances. In 16 cases it was necessary to use glasses for near distance, but these needs were not uncomfortable for them. All patients were satisfied of their vision in mesopic conditions and for the targeting. These options are necessary for combatants in the modern war.
Conclusions
Initial cataract and ammetropy can be the reason of unsatisfaction of vision for combatants according to their specifical kind of job. Phacoemulsification with implantation of X-EDOF IOL can help them to increase visual functions without unpleasant optical surprises and avoid from necessity to use glasses in battels conditions.
