Methods
Prospective one-arm observational descriptive study enrolling 40 eyes of 20 patients in age from 46 to 76 years old. They had been operated on previously of corneal laser refractive surgery and underwent cataract surgery with implantation of the extended range of vision. IOL power will be calculated with the Barrett true-K formula. Results in terms of uncorrected and corrected distance visual acuity (UDVA, CDVA), uncorrected and distance-corrected intermediate (UIVA, DCIVA) and near visual acuity (UNVA, DCNVA) and binocular defocus curve were evaluated during a 3-month follow-up. Also Binocular Visual Disturbance questionnaire pre & postoperatively, Spectacle Independence evaluation, and Patient Satisfaction have been studied and reported.
Results
Preliminary results with are, mean UDVA and CDVA were 0.13±0.10 and 0.02±0.08 logMAR, respectively at three months. Likewise, mean UIVA, DCIVA, UNVA and DCNVA were 0.05±0.10, 0.08±0.08, 0.13±0.08 and 0.23±0.08 logMAR, respectively. All eyes achieved a 3-month postoperative DCIVA of 20/32 or better. All these visual parameters experienced a significant improvement from 1 to 3 months postoperatively (p<0.05). Regarding the binocular defocus curve, visual acuity levels of 20/32 or better were found for the range of defocus from +0.50 to -2.00 D in all patients. We are currently finalizing the 3-month reviews for definitive results (only 2 patients left for 3-month reports).
Conclusions
The extended range of vision Acrysof IQ Vivity IOL can provide a successful distance, intermediate and near visual restoration in eyes with previous miopic corneal laser refractive surgery.
