Purpose

Assessment visual parameters to distance, intermediate and near vision, patient-reported visual function, spectacle independence and satisfaction after bilateral implantation of a model of a toric trifocal diffractive intraocular lens, in a large series of cases.

Setting

Clínica Baviera, Spain - AIER Eye Group

Methods

Retrospective comparative study after phacoemulsification for removal the lens and bilateral implantation of toric diffractive trifocal intraocular, RayOne trifocal toric IOL. Ophthalmologic examination was performed before and after operation. Patients with a minimum of three-months follow-up data were included. Main measures were UDVA, CDVA, UIVA, UNVA, manifest refraction. Spectacle independence, visual function and patient satisfaction were assessed using CatQuest-9F.

Results

1004 patients (2008 eyes). Mean age (years) of 56.2 ± 7. Mean preoperative sphere 1.86 ± 3.22 D, cylinder -2.24 ± 1.08 D, spherical equivalent (SE) 0.74 ± 3.21 D. Mean postoperative sphere 0.03 ± 0.42 D, cylinder -0.34 ± 0.39 D, SE 0.20 ± 0.44 D, UDVA  0.86 ± 0.15 decimal, UIVA 3.86 ± 1.68 Jaeger, UNVA 2.12 ± 1.09 Jaeger, CDVA 0.91 ± 0.11 decimal. Patients who declared not to use glasses to distance was 99.5%, 99.1% not use glasses for intermediate vision, and 99.1% not use glasses for near. In 8.2% report dysphotopsias at night driving. 99.5% were satisfied with the result.

Conclusions

RayOne toric trifocal diffractive IOL implant, after removal the cryslalline lens, provided good visual performance at all distances, excellent levels of patient-report independence of glasses, good visual function and satisfaction and very low levels of visual disturbance, with a high safety profile.
