Purpose

To investigate the efficaccy, safety and stability outcomes of central-hole posterior chamber collamer phakic intraocular lens implantation in the correction of low-to-moderate myopia in 2 years

Setting

122 eyes of 80 consecutive patients undergoing hole ICL implantation to correct low to moderate myopia and myopic astigmatism.

Methods

This was s retrospective cohort study. All the patients recruited in this study completed a 2-years postoperative follow-up. Efficacy, predictability, stability and safety outcomes were demonstrated preoperatively and at 1 week, 1,6 and 24 months postoperatively.

Results

At 2 years postoperative, uncorrected and corrected visual acuities were (-0.055±0.049)logMAR  and (-0.065±0.045)logMAR, with an efficacy index of (1.14±0.17) and safety index of (1.14±0.12) respectively. The spherical equivalent was  (-0.13±0.21)D at 2 years, and 96.7% (118 eyes) were within ±0.50D of targeted refraction. The endothelial cells was (2954±240)/mm2 preopearatively and (2929±295)/mm2 at 2 years postoperatively; the mean rate of endothelial cell loss was (1.55±0.45)% in 2 years. The mean vault were (448.88±194.56)μm at 6 months and (337.31±157.28)μm at 2 years respectively. The change of the vault was (111.57±122.38)μm and the rate of the change was (20.81±29.87)% in 2 years. No vision-threatening complications were reported.

Conclusions

The posterior chamber collamer phakic intraocular lens implantation demonstrated high refractive efficacy and an excellent safety profile for the correction of low-to-moderate myopia in long term. It was suggested that current ICL implantation was one of the viable surgical options for correcting low myopia.
