Purpose
To evaluate the first 6 month results of myopia correction with Small Incision Lenticule Extraction methods in terms of stability, efficiency, safety, predictability and subjective satisfaction using using the latest system Vizumax 800.
Setting
Dr. Solomatin Eye Center
Methods
For a retrospective analysis. 25 patients (50 eyes) operated on by the SMILE PRO© method were selected. The average age of the patients was 27±6 (from 20 to 38 years). SE-4.73 D±1.23 SD (-8.0 to -1.0 D). All patients were operated with binocular SMILE PRO© method using a VisuMax 800 femtosecond laser (ZEISS). The observation period was up to 6 months. All patients were examined for uncorrected, best corrected visual acuity, as well as the effectiveness and safety of surgery, possible complications were recorded. The subjective satisfaction of patients with the results of the operation was separately assessed.
Results
SE in 6 months after the operation was -0.10 ± 0.19D. The refraction ± 0.5 D was detected in eyes 48 (96%) and 50 eyes (100%) were refracted ± 1.0 D. Also after 6 moths, there was no loss of CDVA lines, 30 (60%) of eyes did not change visual acuity,10( 20%) improved by 1 line and 3 (6%) by 2 lines. And 2 ( 4%) eyes were losing 1 line. Weak side-effects were noted by 40% of patients, problems with night driving machines were observed in 40% of patients during the first month. Nevertheless, 100% of patients noted high satisfaction with the results of the operation and a willingness to recommend it to others. 1 eye got sever DLK after the surgery with full recovery in 3 months.
Conclusions
Our first short-term study demonstrates that SMILE PRO© is an effective and safe procedure for treating myopia and myopic astigmatism
