Purpose
To evaluate the clinical outcomes in the first 3-months after lenticule extraction for myopia and myopic astigmatism (SmartSight).
Setting
Dr. Chen Shihao, MD, Hainan, China
Methods
136 eyes from 68 patients with 3-month follow up were retrospective analysed. Patients mean age was 30 ± 4.5 years [range 20 – 41 years]. Visual acuity and manifest refraction were performed preoperatively and at 1 day, 1 week, 1 and 3 months after surgery. Mean preoperatively SEQ was -4.60 ± 1.59 D [range -1.75 to -9.00 D). With 3-months follow-up visual acuity, SEQ as well as the cylinder, safety-index and efficacy-index had been analysed. Lenticule extraction treatments were performed with the SmartSight treatment method of the SCHWIND ATOS femto-second laser.
Results
At 3 months after surgery, mean spherical equivalent SEQ was -0.06D ± 0.31D and 93% of eyes had been within a SEQ of ± 0.50D. All eyes were within ± 1D of the SEQ. Astigmatism of less than ≤ 0.5D was achieved in 95% of eyes. Refraction was stable from day 1 on and a significant improvement of the UCVA was noticeable over time. 48% of eyes gained 1 or more Snellen lines and there was no loss of two or more lines in the 3-months follow-up. Safety index was 1.10 and efficacy index was 1.03.
Conclusions
The 3-month follow-up data show a quick visual recovery and accurate refraction. SmartSight demonstrates to be an effective and safe procedure for the treatment of myopia and myopic astigmatism.
