To present a rare case of a bilateral corneal intraepithelial neoplasia in a 65-year-old caucasian male patient.
Cornea Department, State Ophthalmology Clinic, GHA G. Gennimatas, Athens, Greece
This is a case report of a caucasian 65-year-old male patient, referred to the Cornea Department of our hospital for cornea evaluation of bilateral corneal inferior opacities. Best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) was 8/10 and 9/10 in the right and left eye respectively, while IOP (intraocular pressure) was 14 mm Hg in both eyes. Slit lamp examination revealed symmetrical inferior-nasal intraepithelial opacities on both corneas not extending to the visual axis, as well as corneal neovascularization at the inferior-nasal limbus. Anterior chamber was deep and quiet. Dilated fundus examination was unremarkable. The patient had no history of ocular trauma, toxin exposure, or tobacco use.
Specimens from both eyes were taken for histopathological examination. The histopathological examination revealed cellular disorganization, dysmaturation, and atypia with increased nuclear to cytoplasmic ratio compatible with Cornea Intraepithelial Neoplasia (CIN I) in both eyes. Treatment with topical mitomycin C (MMC) 0,02% was prescribed.
This case represents a rare example of corneal pathology : CIN as a bilateral tumour.
