Purpose
To evaluate the effectiveness of Semifluorinated Alkanes (perfluorohexyloctane) eye drops for the treatment of post operative cataract Dry eye disease
Setting
Massa Marittima Hospital, Department of Ophthalmology
Methods
60 patients 30 controls
mean age 69.8 years +- 9.4 years
M/F ratio 1:3
Affected by dry eye disease
INCLUSION CRITERIA:
preoperative subjective indicating dry eye disease
OSDI TBUT and
EXCLUSION CRITERIA: dry eye due to systemic disease or concomitant therapy, preoperative glaucoma therapy, use of contact lenses
Each patient was treated with pre-operative therapy 3 days before and 28 days post-op with steroid antibiotic fixed association (0.3% Dexamethasone 0.1% netilmicin without preservatives) 3 times daily to reduce. Bromfenac Sodium Sesuqhydrate 0.9mg/ml eye drops 2 times a day .in both sample group and controls. The squid population In addition to the therapy the therapy perfluorohexyloctane eye drops twice a day for 3 months.
Results
TEST, OSDI, BUT, OXFORD demonstrated significant improvement at 1 and 3 months post operatively compared to the controls
Conclusions
PERFLUOROHEXYLOCTANE proved to be an effective molecule in reducing the symptoms of ocular discomfort in post operative DED.
