Purpose

To evaluate corneal stress-strain index (SSI) and Corvis biomechanical index post topoguided trans-epithelial photorefractive keratectomy (PRK) plus corneal collagen cross linking with riboflavin (C3R): One year data.

Setting

Private Tertiary Eye Hospital, Mumbai

Methods

A retrospective study wherein patients who had undergone PRK plus C3R between July 2021 and December 2021 and age group 20–40 years were included. Subjects with a prior history of refractive surgery, any other ocular or systemic disease, poor-quality scans, any intraoperative complications, and missing data were excluded. Corneal biomechanical properties including SSI were analyzed using Corvis ST and compared using the one way ANOVA at baseline, 6 and 12 months post PRK plus C3R.

Results

Overall, 16 eyes with mean±SD age of 23.07±6.25 years were included. Mean±SD spherical equivalent refractive error and IOP were -3.75±3.18 D and 12.91±2.95 mmHg respectively. Mean±SD SSI at baseline, 1, 6 and 12 months was 0.76±0.16, 0.89±0.28, 0.78±0.14 and 0.79±0.12. SSI was found to be increased at 1 month however reduced at 6 and 12 months and found to be stabilized (F=1.63, p=2.07). CBI (F=1.89, p=0.14) and CBIF (F=1.64, p=0.19) was found to be significantly reduced at 1,6 and 12 months follow up post PRK plus C3R.

Conclusions

SSI was found to be stable however CBI and CBIF was reduced at one year follow up post PRK plus C3R.
