Purpose
Compare the visual and refractive outcomes up to 6 months postoperatively following implantation of a refractive segmented or a refractive segmented toric multifocal intraocular lens (IOL).
Setting
EYE CLINIC BRANCHEVSKY
Methods
50 eyes of 25 patients who underwent cataract surgery with bilateral multifocal individually customized cylinder correction Lentis Mplus intraocular lenses (Lentis Mplus LU-313 MF30T IOL). The Haigis formula was chosen for IOL power calculation, the manufacturer customized the cylinder correction according to the corneal refractive power. Postoperative visual and refractive outcomes were evaluated up to 6 months postoperatively.
Results
The uncorrected distance visual acuity (VA) and uncorrected near VA 0.8 and 0.70 in decimal, respectively, was achieved in 86% of patients. Within 6 months, both parameters remained stable after surgery. Postoperative astigmatism according to manifest refraction was less then 0,5D and remain stable during follow up period. Spectacle independence was 100% for both distant and near vision.
Conclusions
There was no need for additional surgical refractive procedures. Bilateral implantation of refractive segmented toric multifocal IOL for cataract patients with cornea astigmatism shows good both visual and refractive outcomes without any need in spectacles.
