Purpose

To evaluate the visual function, visual quality and safety of monocular or binocular cataract patients after trifocal intraocular lens surgery in the real world by using ophthalmic instruments and atlases to record preoperative and postoperative visual parameters.

Setting

Prospective one-arm case study. The Affiliated Eye Hospital of Shandong University of Chinese Medicine

Methods

A total of 138 patients who underwent phacoemulsification combined with trifocal intraocular lens implantation by the same senior surgeon from January 1,2021 to December 31,2021 were collected. The patients were divided into two groups according to the situation of cataract surgery in unilateral or bilateral eyes. All patients underwent routine ophthalmic examination before operation, and the patients underwent ophthalmic related map examination and recorded the data. Visual acuity, visual function and visual quality were evaluated and analyzed at different follow-up time after operation. The measurement data were expressed as mean ± standard deviation, and analyzed by group t test and non-parametric test.

Results

In group A, there were differences in monocular vision, visual quality and different atlas examination results between postoperative and preoperative ( P < 0.05 ). The defocus curve showed that the best visual acuity was achieved at 0.00 ~ − 0.50D, and the curve was gentle and in the range of − 1.00D ~ − 2.00D.In group B, there were differences in monocular vision, binocular vision, visual quality and different atlas test results between postoperative and preoperative ( P < 0.05 ). The difference between monocular and binocular defocus curves at different time periods was significant and similar to the trend of group A defocus curve.

Conclusions

Trifocal intraocular lens can effectively improve the visual acuity and related visual quality of different types of cataract patients after implantation, and binocular implantation is better than monocular implantation.
