Purpose
To investigate the visual performance of PanOptix in multicenter real-world observational study and broader variety of patients through routine clinical practice.
Setting
Since the efficiency of PanOptix in real-world medical practice is currently the data gap in China, this is the 1st prospective, multicenter, real-world study. It could provide descriptive data to show the visual performance of PanOptix after bilateral implantation in a real world setting. The composite primary endpoint looks into the full range of vision and reflects the visual performance of PanOptix in daily life.
Methods
A prospective, multicenter, real-world observational study. Fifty cataract patients (100 eyes) undergoing cataract surgery with bilateral implantation of PanOptix at 6 ophthalmic centers from October 1, 2021 to August 2, 2022 were included. The primary endpoint is the proportion of subjects achieving 0.20 logMAR or better for binocular uncorrected visual acuity at all distances at 3 months postoperatively. Visual acuity, defocus curve (+2 D to -4 D), manifest refraction, Catquest-9SF and IOLSAT questionnaire were also evaluated.
Results
The proportion of patients with eyes achieving 0.20 logMAR or better of the composite binocular uncorrected visual acuity at distance (5 m), intermediate (60 cm) and near (40 cm) during 3-month follow-up was 82.2%. The mean binocular UCDVA, UCIVA and UCNVA at 3 months postoperatively were (-0.01±0.10),(0.08±0.13),(0.05±0.10)logMAR. The mean binocular BCDVA, DCIVA and DCNVA at 3 months postoperatively were (-0.01±0.10),(0.08±0.14),(0.07±0.14)logMAR, respectively. The binocular defocus curve showed that the visual acuity was better than 0.2 logMAR within the range of +1 D to -2.5 D, indicating excellent visual acuity at distance, intermediate and near. The spectacle dependence rate and satisfaction of patients were higher than 90%.
Conclusions
Bilateral implantation of PanOptix provided good full range of vision for Chinese cataract patients in a real-world setting, with a desired spectacle independence rate and patient satisfaction.
