Purpose
The main objective of this clinical study was to assess the visual and refractive outcomes, rotational stability and defocus curve obtained in cataract patients implanted with the Liberty Toric 677MTY intraocular lens
Setting
Oftalvist, Jerez de la Frontera, Spain
Methods
This prospective observational consecutive single-arm study was conducted in accordance with the tenets of the Declaration of Helsinki and considered 20 age-related cataract patients with regular corneal astigmatism between 1 and 6 D. All patients provided written informed consent before they were enrolled in the study. Exlusion criteria considered patients with astigmatism <1 D, irregular astigmatism, diabetic retinopathy, glaucoma, amblyopia, age macular degeneration, and corneal diseases among others.
Results
Main outcome measures at 6-months post-surgery were monocular and binocular visual acuity at different distances (far, intermediate (66 cm) and near (40 cm)), manifest refractive error (sphere and cylinder), rotational stability of the lens, distance-corrected photopic and mesopic contrast sensitivity with and without glare, and distance-corrected monocular and binocular defocus curve. Intra- and post-operative complications and VFQ-25 patient’s questionnaire were also recorded at the last postoperative visit.
Conclusions
The present evaluation at 6-montsh post-implantation of the Liberty Toric 677MTY intraocular lens shows that this lens offers good visual and refractive outcomes at different distances, good rotational stability without intra- and post-operative adverse events.
