Purpose
To determine the safety and efficacy of the implantation of a new bi-aspheric diffractive trifocal intraocular lens (IOL) with high spherical aberration in eyes with previous corneal refractive surgery.
Setting
Hospital da Luz Póvoa de Varzim, Oporto, Portugal
Methods
Prospective non-randomized interventional case series of 20 patients who had previous corneal refractive surgery for myopia and were submitted to cataract surgery. All subjects were implanted with the hydrophobic bi-aspheric AsqelioTM Trifocal IOL, with a spherical aberration of -0.27mm, and examined 3 months after surgery. Main outcome measures were corneal topography, refractive error, photopic monocular uncorrected and best-corrected visual acuity at far, intermediate (60 cm), and near (40 cm) distances.
Results
All patients had residual refractive errors ranging from +0.25 to -0.5D, with visual acuities 0.1 LogMAR or better in all cases at all distances. No adverse events occurred at any stage of the surgery or follow-up period.
Conclusions
The trifocal bi-aspheric with high negative spherical aberration design of AsqelioTM Trifocal makes it a very suitable option for eyes with previous corneal refractive surgery, providing excellent visual outcomes at all distances.
