Purpose

To assess refractive and visual outcomes following phacoemulsification and implantation of a presbyopic transitional conic toric intraocular lens (IOL) in eyes with corneal astigmatism from 0,75D to 3D.

Setting

Retrospective single-center study

Methods

Twenty nine eyes of 18 patients who underwent implantation of the presbyopic transitional conic toric IOL (PRECIZON PRESBYOPIC TORIC, Ophtec BV, The Netherlands) were enrolled (mean age 60.1 ±7.47). The main outcome parameters were uncorrected and corrected distance LogMAR visual acuity values (UDVA, CDVA), and uncorrected and best distance corrected near Parinaud visual acuity values (UNVA, DCNVA).Manifest refraction spherical equivalent (MRSE) and IOL rotation were measured as a secondary outcome parameter. The follow-up was one month after surgery. Further follow-ups and inclusions are ongoing.

Results

Overall, 82.8% (24 eyes) and 100% (29 eyes) of the eyes showed a spherical equivalent (SE) within ± 0.50D and ± 1.00D, respectively. The mean SE and refractive cylinder were - 0.12 ± 0.38D and - 0.41 ± 0.51D, respectively. The postoperative mean values of monocular UDVA and CDVA were 0.02 ± 0.09 and 0.01 ± 0.06 LogMAR, respectively. The postoperative mean values of monocular UNVA and DCNVA were Parinaud 3.25 ± 1.36 and 2.15 ± 0.40 respectively. No patient required IOL realignment during the postoperative follow-up due to axis rotation.

Conclusions

The present study suggests that the use of the PRECIZON PRESBYOPIC TORIC IOL in patients with different amounts of astigmatism, provides good visual acuity, accurate refractive outcomes, and good rotational stability.
