Clinical Outcomes Of Multifocal Intraocular Lens For Cataract Surgery After Previous Laser Vision Correction

To evaluate visual and refractive outcomes of multifocal intraocular lens for cataract surgery after previous laser vision correction.

A retrospective study evaluated eyes of consecutive patients who had multifocal IOL implantation after previous laser vision correction, Uncorrected distance visual acuity (UDVA), uncorrected intermediate visual acuity (UIVA), uncorrected near visual acuity (UNVA), and manifest refraction (MR) values were measured at 1 month, and 6 months postoperatively. At the 6-month follow-up, defocus curve, contrast sensitivity, and spectacle independence were evaluated.

454 eye (PRK: 130, LASIK: 322, SMILE: 2)  of 241patients with a mean age of 58(range: 38-73), were included in this study.Preoperative mean UDVA, UNVA and UIVA was 0.59±0.34logMAR, 0.31±0.24logMAR and 0.27±0.25logMAR respectively. Mean UDVA, UNVA and UIVA was 0.08±0.1 logMAR, 0.04±0.0 logMAR and 0.03±0.07logMAR respectively at the 6 months. At the end of postoperative 6 months, MSE was -0.19±0.46diopters (D) and 73.2% of the eyes were within ±0.5D of target refraction and 92.8% of the eyes were within ±1.00D. The mean contrast sensitivity value(LogCSF) of spatial frequency range from 0.6 to 14.2cycle/degree were within normal (0.6: 1.32±0.08, 1.1: 1.36±0.05, 2.2: 1.35±0.05, 3.4: 1.32±0.06, 7.1: 1.25±0.11, 14.2: 1.02±0.19)

Mutifocal IOL implantation after laser vision correctionprovided good uncorrected  distance, intermediate and near visual acuity. High levels of spectacle independence were achieved at all distances including intermediate distance.
