To evaluate the Holladay Total SIA algorithm in selecting trifocal toric intraocular lenses (IOLs) and compare to other calculation approaches.

Tokyo Dental College Suidobashi Hospital

This study included 41 eyes of 32 patients who received trifocal toric IOL with 1.0 D cylinder (TFNT20: Alcon) based on Holladay Total SIA formula. In the same group of eyes, the ideal toric model was recalculated using Holladay and Barrett toric formulas. SIA was set at zero and the patient’s preoperative depth of anterior chamber was set at 3.2mm. The number of eyes selected for TFNT20, and their preoperative distribution of corneal astigmatisms and postoperative refractive astigmatisms were compared to those with Holladay Total SIA formula.

Within 41 eyes, the number of eyes selected for TFNT20 was 28 by Holladay and 26 by Barrett calculator. The mean postoperative refractive astigmatisms were 0.06 ± 0.16D in eyes with Holladay and 0.05 ± 0.14 with Barrett, which were similar to 0.05 ± 0.15 D of eyes with Holladay Total SIA.

Although the number of eyes selected for TFNT20 differed with Hollday Total SIA, Holladay, and Barrett toric calculators, the postoperative refractive astigmatisms were very low and showed equally good results.
