Visual Performance Of Bilateral Implantation Of Mini Well Proxa Extended Depth Of Focus (Edof) Intraocular Lenses For Cataract And Presbyopia Patient: A Qualitative And Quantitative Analysis

To evaluate the visual outcomes of bilateral implantation of Mini WELL PROXA Extended Depth Of Focus (EDOF) Intraocular lenses (IOL), quantitatively and qualitatively at one month in the routine cataract population of India

The study included patients who were operated between 2022 - 2023 at Bharti Eye Foundation, New Delhi, India

This study is a prospective quantitative and qualitative evaluation of 13 patients (26 eyes) who underwent bilateral implantation with Mini WELL PROXA EDOF IOL (Sifi SPA., Italy) irrespective of eye dominance to achieve emmetropia through phacoemulsification surgery. In postoperative patients, unaided Visual Acuity (UAVA) was measured binocularly at various distances [Distance (6m), Intermediate (66cm) and Near (30-35cm) Visual Acuity] at 1 week and 1-month follow-up. The Snellen chart is used for distance vision, and the N notation chart is used for intermediate & near vision measurements. Also, the subjective questionnaire was collected for Halo & Glare and IOL acceptance levels of all the patients.

Out of 13 patients, females were 9 (69.2%) and males 4 (30.76%), respectively. The mean age of the patients was 50 ± 13.7 yrs. At 1-week and 1-month follow-ups with the Mini WELL PROXA EDOF IOL majority of the population had excellent intermediate vision (92.31%, 100%) & near vision (92.31%, 100%) and good distance vision (69.23%, 92.31%) respectively. None of them opted for the spectacle correction for the same. Based on the subjective questionnaire, none of the patients was reported with Glare & Halos, and the study showed high happiness index of patients who underwent IOL implantation.

The result of the study concludes that post one month of implantation Mini WELL PROXA EDOF IOL showed excellent performance for Intermediate vision & near vision and good performance for distance vision. The bilateral implantation of Mini WELL PROXA EDOF IOL showed excellent visual performance at all distances without the halo and glare or any other night driving issues. Also, the study found a high happiness index among patients who underwent cataract surgery with Mini WELL PROXA EDOF IOL implantation.
