Purpose

To compare Zeiss visthesia and Thea Mydraine regarding patients comfort during cataract surgery

Setting

Venizeleio Hospital of Heraklion OR

Methods

We prospectively randomised patients in two groups. Group 1: Patients received Xeiss visthesia intracamerally during cataract surgery. Group 2: patients received Thea Mydraine intracameraly during cataract surgery. All cases performed under the same setting and by the same doctor. Patient were assessed for intraoperative comfort. Pupil dilation and reaction during surgery were marked by the surgeon and the assistant indipedently .

Results

No difference observed between the two agents regarding patient's comfort.

statisticaly and clinically significant difference was observed regarding pupil dilation.

The total cost was estimated for each agent 

Conclusions

The Mydraine ofers equal intraoperative comfort during cataract surgery to Zeiss Visthesia. Although is a cheaper adjacent and provides better dialation , even in cases with no preoperative mydriasis
