Purpose
Treatment of astigmatism in conjunction with cataract surgery has been accepted for many years but has increased in popularity with the advent of femtosecond laser- assisted arcuate keratotomy and toricIOLs.
IOL, toric IOL and PC-IOL need precise assessment of preoperative corneal astigmatism (CA) has played an increasingly important role in the past twenty years. The larger the CA, the poorer the postoperative visual acuity at all distances after implantation of either monofocal or multifocal IOLs. Improvements of postoperative astigmatism, such as toric IOL, clear corneal incision loca tion, and peripheral corneal relaxing incisions, were developed. All of these were based on accurate preoperative CA measurement.
Setting
Watany Eye Hospital, Watany Research and Development Center, Cairo, Egypt
Methods
Good quality measurements were used in the final analysis of IOL Power and Toricity Calculation. IOL power and toricity were calculated using the online toric Barrett calculator for IOL type which was in all out case Tenis Toric from Johnson and Johanson. Axial length (AL) and the optical anterior chamber depth (ACD) measured by IOLMaster 700 were used as biometry data for calculation. Target refraction was set as plano, and incision SIA and incision location were set as 0.25D and wound inscion were the 110 for the right eye and 45 degrees for the left eye. The TECNIS® Toric II IOL model were used for each calculation. Corneal power and astigmatism obtained using iTrace, IOLMasterand Pentacam.
Results
The toric IOL power calculated using data from the three devices showed the following trend:
iTrace > IOLMaster and Pentacam and Pentacam was <IOLMaster in the the Corneal power and astigmatism obtained using iTrace, IOLMasterand Pentacam
Our study evaluated the comparability of toric IOL power and toricity calculated on the basis of the data obtained from three different devices using the online Barrett toric calculator.
Conclusions
Differences in toric IOL power and toricity calculated using anterior keratometry data from iTrace, IOLMaster 700, and Pentacam should be noted in clinical practice.
