Purpose
Purpose: To assess the accuracy of Barrett Universal II (BU II) formula for multifocal intraocular lens power calculation (IOL) in eyes with high axial length.
Setting
MAE: Mean absolute error . MNE: Mean numerical error
Methods
Methods: The study was done on 39 eyes that underwent phaco surgery and IOL implantation at Viet Nga hospital from 4/2022 to 8/2022. IOL power calculation was measured by four formulas: SRK/T, Haigis, Holladay 2, and BU II. Mean absolute error (MAE) and mean numerical error (MNE) were recorded at four weeks postoperatively.
Results
Results: The study included 39 eyes. 8 eyes had IOL power below -6D, and 31 eyes had IOL power greater than -6D. The BU II had the lowest MAE and MNE, which were 0,29±0,04, -0,02±0,07, respectively, among the four formulas. Statistically, a significant difference was seen between MAE of BU II with SRK/T, Haigis, Holladay 2.
Conclusions
Conclusions: The study shows that the BU II formula has the lowest spherical error in eyes with an axial length greater than 25 mm.
