Purpose
To report a case series of 10 patients with implantation of IOL of wrong dioptric power who underwent a second operation with IOL exchange.
Setting
LaserPlusEye Institute
Methods
The patients were operated with intravenous sedation and Para bulbar anesthesia. At the beginning of the procedure the main incision was reopened and viscoelastic was injected in the anterior chamber, mobilizing the pre-existing lens and releasing it from the capsular bag and relocate it to the anterior chamber. Subsequently, the new IOL was injected in the capsular bag and then the older intraocular lens was cut with special intraocular cutting scissors and the pieces were removed from the main incision.
Results
The patients had excellent results despite the fact that in some intraoperative cases a small bleeding occurred. All patients regained full vision and had no postoperative complications.
Conclusions
The replacement of intraocular lens in cases of patients in which an incorrect intraocular lens was placed is a safe procedure with good visual results.
