Purpose
The purpose of the present preliminary study is to assess the refractive and visual outcomes of eyes implanted with a monofocal optimized aspheric hydrophobic acrylic intraocular lens (IOL) following cataract surgery.v
Methods
This preliminary prospective study was approved by the Ethics Committee of the Hospital Clínico San Carlos (Madrid, Spain) and was conducted in accordance with the tenets of the Declaration of Helsinki. The study was registered at the DRKS German Clinical Trials Register (clinical registration number DRKS00029169). The inclusion criteria were patients with cataracts, age ≥50 years and regular corneal astigmatism up to 1.00D. Exclusion criteria considered irregular corneal astigmatism (i.e keratoconus), previous corneal refractive surgery, ocular abnormalities or pathologies that could reduce visual function or postoperative IOL stability (i.e. severe amblyopia or macular degeneration).
Results
These are the preliminary results of a large study involving 55 eyes. All eyes were implanted with the monofocal CT LUCIA 621P IOL. This hydrophobic acrylic lens has a design with a C-loop platform with an optimized Zeiss optic non-constant aberration aspheric design. Postoperative examinations were performed at 3 months after IOL implantation in 30 eyes. Refraction, monocular uncorrected and corrected distance visual acuity, contrast sensitivity and wavefront aberrations were measured. In addition, a Catquest-9SF patient outcomes questionnaire was also administered at the last postoperative visit
Conclusions
These preliminary outcomes demonstrate good visual and refractive outcomes for the monofocal optimized aspheric CT LUCIA 621P IOL after cataract surgery.
