The boston keratoprosthesis type I is the last therapeutic alternative for patients with bilateral blindness due to chemical burn who cannot benefit from corneal graft.
This is a case of a 28 years old patient with chemical burn in his both eyes since two years.
We report a case of a 28 years old patient with chemical burn in his both eyes two years ago, he was unsuccessfuly treated with amniotic membrane graft.
He underwent a slit lamp examination which showed the presence of symblepharons with a dystrophic and neovascularised cornea.
His visual acuity was estimated as positive light perception.
He beneficiated from a keratoprosthesis in his left eye.
We noticed an improvement of the corrected visual acuity and the ocular surface.
Successful improvement in outcomes with the keratoprosthesis in chemical burn can be attributed to the modification of the device design and advances in postoperative management.
This is a unique chance for patients in Morocco and Afriqua to overcome graft rejections in these cases.
