To report a workplace ocular injury with fiber optic cable
A young male presented to the emergency room (ER) a day after an alleged history of trauma to the eye with fiber optic cable
On examination, he had visible fiber optic cable extending from the limbus into the anterior vitreous phase in the retrolental area. The patient underwent removal of foreign body with lens aspiration with limited anterior vitrectomy with intraocular lens placement. Surprisingly, MRI did not show any retained intraocular foreign body!
Ocular injuries can have varied presentations which may or may not be radio-opaque! Workplace injuries are common in developing nations. Awareness and safety gear must be reinforced at all at-risk working places, after all, prevention is better than cure!
