Case report of a late presented acanthameba keratitis ended up with evasceraion

Acanthamoeba keratitis is one of the serious, vision-threatening infections of the cornea caused by an opportunistic protozoan that has become more prevalent in recent years. We report a case of Acanthamoeba Keratitis with a late presentation that affectedthe visual prognosis. Ophthalmological and microbiological investigation revealed Acanthamoeba keratitis. The case was resistant to medical management, hence underwent therapeutic penetrating keratoplasty (PKP). The prognosis was poor, and the eye ended up with evisceration eventually. Early presentation and diagnosis are critical factors for successfully managing Acanthamoeba keratitis.

Early diagnosis and treatment of Acanthameba keratitis is crucial.

low threshold for surgical intervention could preserve the eye from evasceration
