Analysis of diagnostic and therapeutic measures in retinal detachment due to panophthalmitis after cavernous sinus thrombosis against the background of СoVid-19
A man H. K., born in 1977, came to the our clinic with complaints of a sharp deterioration in the vision of the both eyes. According to the patient, a few weeks ago he suffered severe COVID-19 with cavernous sinus thrombosis, notes a decrease in vision for several days.The patient underwent standard ophthalmic and special research methods.
Ophthalmic status: Visus: OD - 0; OS - 0,01, intraocular pressure: OD / OS = 9 / 11 mm Hg. At biomicroscopy, the media are not transparent, the fundus of the eye is not ophthalmoscoped. B-scan - V-shaped retinal detachment of the both eyes. The patient underwent a vitrectomy with the introduction of silicone oil. One month after the operation, Visus - OD- 0/OS -0.08 sph (+) 4,0 = 0,1. This patient was recommended to be under the supervision of a neurologist, ophthalmologist, and therapist.
During the pandemic, the development of formidable complications, such as cavernous sinus thrombosis, led to numerous deaths, or to the development of permanent vision loss, especially in people of working age. This patient developed panophthalmitis due to thrombosis of the cavernous sinus, which contributed to retinal detachment. Timely surgical intervention helped restore the man's vision in at least one eye.
