Purpose

To assess the intra-operator and inter-operator variability of the NIMO TEMPO (Lambda-X), a recently introduced interferometry device capable of analyzing in vitro wavefront profiles of monofocal, refractive, and diffractive toric or non-toric intraocular lenses (IOLs).

Setting

Rothschild Foundation Hospital, Paris, France.

Methods

Ten in-vitro wavefront measurements were acquired for eight different IOLs, including two monofocals (Tecnis DCB00 +20D/+34D), one toric monofocal (Acrysof SN60T3), two EDOFs (Vivity +21.5D; Tecnis Eyhance +8D), two trifocals (Physiol, MicroF +19D/+22.5D with +3.5D add), and one multifocal toric (Restor +28D/Cyl +1 with +3D add), using the NIMO TEMPO (Lambda-X). These measurements were performed by three different operators. A two-way ANOVA was used to determine the intra-operator and inter-operator variability as the standard error of measurement (SEM) for the spherical equivalent power (SEP) of far focus, cylinder power, label axis, add power, and modulation transfer function (MTF) at 25 lp/mm and 50 lp/mm at different MTF peaks.

Results

The intra-operator SEM for the SEP, cylinder power, axis labeling, and add power were 0.066 D, 0.046 D, 0.738 degrees, and 0.012 D, respectively. The intra-operator SEM for the far focus and add focus MTF at 25 lp/mm were 0.026 and 0.007, respectively. The intra-operator SEM for the far focus MTF and add focus MTF at 50 lp/mm were 0.018 and 0.003, respectively. The (inter-operator) SEM for the SEP, cylinder power, axis labeling, and add power were 0.078 D, 0.046 D, 0.777 degrees, and 0.012 D, respectively. The SEM for the far focus MTF at 25 lp/mm and add focus MTF at 25 lp/mm were 0.026 and 0.007, respectively. The SEM for the far focus MTF at 50 lp/mm and add focus MTF at 50 lp/mm were 0.019 and 0.004, respectively.

Conclusions

The NIMO TEMPO device (Lambda-X) is a fast and precise metrology tool for measuring refractive and diffractive IOLs in vitro with low inter-operator and intra-operator variability.
