6 Months Follow Up Comparison Of Rotational Stability Between Zeiss At Lisa 939 And Synergy Toric Ii For Correction Of Anisometropia With Astigmatism And Presbyopia

Purpose
Compare the rotational stability of the new platform and look at the total visual outcome when comparing these two IOLs. Tecnis Synergy Toric II IOL (Johnson and Johnson) has better or equal rotational stability than AT LISA toric (Zeiss).
Setting
University Eye Hospital Svjelost, Zagreb, Croatia
Methods
48 eyes were analyzed (24 in Synergy and 24 in AT Lisa group). The same highly experienced surgeon (NG) performed all surgeries. IOL position was recorded at the end of surgery, first post operative day and after 3 and 6 months. Patients were evaluated for spectacle independence, photic phenomena. Monocular Visual acuity for far, intermediate and near corrected and uncorrected (ETDRS charts for far (4 m), intermediate (66 cm) and near (40 and 33
cm) distance). Binocular Defocus curve (ETDRS) up to 33cm at 90 and 180 days.
Results
Both groups showed a substantial improvement in UCVA and spectacle independence. In the Synergy Toric II group full spectacle independence was achieved in 96% of eyes, in the AT Lisa group full spectacle independence was achieved in 87% of eyes. Both groups had on average less than 5 degrees of IOL rotation on day 1 and less than 7 degrees on day 90, with the Synergy Toric II group showing a slightly better stability with rotation of less than 3 on day 1 and less than 5 on day 90. The PCO rate for Synergy group in the 3M period was 4% and the the AT Lisa group was 12%. Both IOLs showed no rotational issues between months 3 and 6.
Conclusions
Both IOLs are good options for correction of anisometropia with astigmatism and presbyopia but the Synergy Toric II showed better outcomes and patient satisfaction in this direct comparison. This is aa substantial change from before where AT Lisa Toric platform was far superior to the old Tecnis Toric platform in terms of rotational stability and predictability of outcomes
