Purpose
To evaluate the efficacy and safety of long-term Implantable Collamer Lens(ICL) V4c implantation in patients with relatively deep anterior chamber depths (ACD).
Setting
Prospective conhort study, Eye Institute and Department of Ophthalmology, Eye & ENT Hospital, Shanghai, China
Methods
This prospective study included 138 eyes of 71 patients with moderate to high myopia who intended to receive EVO-ICL implantation and followed up for at least 36 months. The patients were divided into deep ACD group (ACD≥3.5 mm, n=49), normal ACD group (3.0mm≤ACD<3.5mm, n=49), and shallow ACD group (ACD<3.0 mm, n=39). Uncorrected distance visual acuity, corrected distance visual acuity, intraocular pressure (IOP), manifest refraction, vault, white to white (WTW), endothelial cell density (ECD) were measured during the follow-up visits. Pearson’s correlation was used to identify possible variables correlated with vault.
Results
No postoperative complications occurred in all patients during the 3-year follow-up. At the last visit, the safety index (post-operative CDVA/pre-operative CDVA) was 1.26±0.20 and the efficacy index (post-operative UDVA/pre-operative CDVA) was 0.99±0.24. The ECD was 2673.24±254.19 cells/mm2.and the mean vault was 465.64±233.24mm. The reduction of ACD was highest in deep ACD group(deep:-0.27±0.21mm vs normal: -0.21±0.12mm vs shallow -0.14±0.06, p=0.001). No statistical difference in postoperative CDVA, safety index, post-operative UDVA, efficacy index and SE among shallow, normal and deep ACD groups. Moreover, the vault was significantly correlated to age, preoperative WTW, ACD, CCT and ICL diameter (Pearson’s correlation, p<0.05*).
Conclusions
ICL V4c implantation demonstrated long-term safety and satisfying visual outcomes in patients with either shallow or deep ACD.
