Purpose
To highlight intraocular lens (IOL) opacification as a late complication in posterior capsule rent (PCR) and the associated management thereafter in a case series.
Setting
Outpatient ophthalmology department in a tertiary healthcare hospital.
Methods
A case series of 2 patients with painless and progressive diminution of vision a few months after an eventful phacoemulsification cataract surgery with PCR are discovered to have IOL opacification and subsequently, subjective refraction was performed to assess the most suitable management protocol.
Results
The subjective refraction shows varying results where one patient requires an IOL exchange while the other achieved the best corrected visual acuity (BCVA) of 6/6 by spectacles.
Conclusions
It is essential to follow up with cataract patients, in case of PCR, for late IOL complications and maintain proper documentation to be able to assess the situation well and take the most appropriate steps toward management to achieve the highest BCVA.
