Purpose
To describe the corneal remodelling in a clinical case using the novel PTK- assisted customized epi-on CXL.
Setting
ELZA Institute, Dietikon/Zurich, Switzerland
Report of case
Unlike standard CXL, where the same amount of irradiation is used over the entire cornea, we describe a case where PACE (PTK-assisted custom CXL epi-on) was used. A larger amount of irradiation was applied over the area of the cornea where the keratoconus is, and less irradiation over the rest of the cornea. Corneal remodeling selectively flattened the steepest area of the keratoconus by a substantial amount in just a few weeks.
Conclusion / Take home message
The novel cross-linking approach is highly effective in regularizing irregular corneas and may expand traditional surgical indications.
