Purpose

We aimed to investigate the improvement in visual acuity and patient satisfaction in pseudophakic patients (toric trifocal IOL implantation)  with residual myopic refraction using SMILE.

Setting

Eye  Hospital,Department of Opthalmology,Prishtina,Kosova

Methods

In this study, Zeiss toric trifocal lens was implanted intraocular with phaco surgery in 40 eyes of 20 patients aged between 20 and 45 who were diagnosed with high hyperopia and astigmatism. Postoperatively, patients who were dissatisfied with residual myopic astigmatism in eight eyes were treated with SMILE surgery at the Eye Hospital Pristina between 2018 and 2019.

Results

3 months after Toric trifocal implantation, eight eyes were dissatisfied with residual myopic astigmatism. First we treated with YAG laser , after we used SMILE surgery, and followed them for one year. Five eyes preop UDVA increased from 0.3 to 0,9 UDVA post-op one year. Two eyes preop UDVA increased from 0.5 to 1.0 UDVA postop one year, and one eye preop UDVA from 0.2 to 0,8 postop one year.

Conclusion

SMILE is a reliable alternative method for treating  myopic residual refraction after toric trifocal IOL implantation. It provides results in the shortest time without complications and increases visual acuity and patient satisfaction.
