Purpose

To evaluate the functional outcomes including visual performance, contrast sensitivity and patient reported outcomes after binocular refractive lens exchange and implantation of the new Clareon IQ PanOptix IOL (Alcon, Fort Worth, TX, USA). The studied IOL is made of a glistening free hydrophobic acrylic and the successor of the AcrySof IQ PanOptix.

Setting

International Vision Correction Research Centre, Department of Ophthalmology, University of Heidelberg, Heidelberg, Germany.

Methods

In this ongoing clinical study, bilateral delayed sequential femtosecond laser assisted refractive lens exchange and implantation of the Clareon PanOptix IOL is performed in 56 eyes of 28 patients. Postoperative follow-up at 3 months includes uncorrected (UDVA) and corrected (CDVA) distance visual acuity, uncorrected (UIVA) and distance corrected intermediate (DCIVA) visual acuity at 60 cm distance, uncorrected (UNVA) and distance corrected (DCNVA) near visual acuity at 40 cm distance. Defocus curve testing with distance correction and contrast sensitivity testing under photopic and mesopic conditions were also part of the 3 months follow-up visit.

Results

So far, 12 patients with a mean age of 54 ± 4 years have been enrolled in the study. Surgery has already been performed in 12 eyes of 6 patients. Preoperatively, binocular UDVA and CDVA were 0.42 ± 0.31 and -0.10 ± 0.06 logMAR. Binocular UIVA and DCIVA were 0.60 ± 0.15 and 0.30 ± 0.21logMAR, UNVA and DCNVA were 0.70 ± 0.14 and 0.46 ± 0.20 logMAR.

Detailed results of the 3-months-follow-up will be available for at least 24 eyes of 12 patients.

Conclusion

Detailed results of the 3-months-follow-up will be available for at least 24 eyes of 12 patients.
