Purpose

Visual analysis, generated by the implantation of the RayOne EMV® toric intraocular lenses (IOL) with positive spherical aberration, based on the data of visual acuity and contrast sensitivity.

Setting

The study population is composed of 10 eyes (5 patients) operated with RayOne EMV® toric lenses in a period of 2 months.

Visual acuity and blur curve are monitored with the EDTRS optotype at 4 meters and illumination of 85cd / m². Contrast sensitivity using table CSV-1000HGT. At a distance of 2.5 meters (8 feet) with spatial frequencies of 3, 6, 12 and 18 cycles / degree.

Methods

In this study, 5 patients that had surgery in both eyes with RayOne EMV® toric Rayner IOLs were examined, in which visual acuity and contrast sensitivity were measured, 5 weeks after surgery.

Results

At 5 weeks:

  • Monocular UDVA: 0.05 logMAR
  • Monocular UIVA: 0.18 logMAR
  • Monocular UNVA: 0.48 logMAR

Binocular defocus curve (HOTSPOTS):

  • Optical infinity or far vision: 0.05 logMAR
  • Intermediate vision 67 cm. (-1.5D): 0.15 logMAR
  • Near vision 33 cm. (-3.0D): 0.4 logMAR

 Contrast sensitivity test:

  • 3 cycles / degree: 5,45
  • 6 cycles / degree: 4,52
  • 12 cycles / degree: 3,5
  • 18 cycles / degree: 2,62

Conclusion

OPTICAL:

  1. Monofocal and fully refractive technology.
  2. Non-pupil dependent functional distance and intermediate visión.
  3. Positive spherical aberration IOLs maintain stable extended focus.

CLINICAL:

  1. 100% of patients report independence from glasses in distant and intermediate vision regardless of light conditions.
  2. 100% of patients can read at 40cm. with an addition of +1.50D to +2.00D.
  3. In 100% of patients, contrast sensitivity is within normalized values.
