Purpose
The Lucidis IOL (Swiss Advanced Vision, SAV-IOL SA,Neuchâtel, Switzerland) is a new type of refractive/EDOF hybrid IOL involving a central aspheric element surrounded by an outer refractive ring. The aim of the study was to report the real-life experience related to the implant of this EDOF IOL.
Setting
Opthalmology Department in Hillel Yaffe Medical Center, Israel.
Methods
A retrospective study of 25 patients (36 eyes) whounderwent uncomplicated cataract surgery and implanted with LUCIDIS IOL, and were evaluated the refractive success of this IOL through complete ophthalmologic assessments and the spectacle independence questionnaire, a quality of vision questionnaire. The main outcome measures were the refractive outcome; far, intermediate, and near vision.
Results
We included 36 eyes (25 patients; age 69.9±9.92). 8 of 36 eyes required toric IOL. Best-corrected visual acuity improved from 0.30 ± 0.19 LogMAR to 0.12 ± 0.12 LogMAR (p < 0.01). Refractive outcome was very good for far and intermediate visions, whereas aspherical addition of at least + 1.0D was required for near vision. The most complained visual disturbances were haloes and glares, although resulting well-tolerated.
Conclusion
LUCIDIS is a well-tolerated choice to correct far andintermediate vision. Spectacles are needed to optimize near vision.
