Purpose

Precizon Presbyopic® is a hybrid, acrylic intraocular lens with a continuous transitional focus, designed for the correction of presbyopia. Our purpose was to evaluate the visual and refractive outcomes after Precizon Presbyopic® intraocular lens implantation.

Setting

Refractive Surgery Unit of Ophthalmology Department of Centro Hospitalar

Methods

Retrospective analysis of 40 eyes of 20 patients submitted to Precizon Presbyopic® implantation between August 2020 and August 2022 in Centro Hospitalar Universitário do Porto. Distance visual acuity (VA) was evaluated in the logMAR scale. Near VA was evaluated with the Jaeger Chart. Distance monocular VA, binocular near VA and spherical equivalent (SE) were evaluated before and after the surgical procedure. Intermediate VA was evaluated after the surgical procedure. Ocular scatter index (OSI) and Modular Transfer function (MTF) were measured using the HD Analyzer®. The presence of disphotopic phenomena was recorded and patients were inquired about global satisfaction with the surgical outcome.

Results

Mean age was 56±8.3 years old and 80.0% were female. Mean SE changed from -1.53±5.13 D [-16.5 to +4.5 D] to -0.08±0.26 D [-1.0 to 0.0]. In 52,5% of eyes a toric lens was implanted. Monocular distance VA changed from 0.18±0.11 logMAR (best corrected VA) to 0.06±0.08 logMAR (uncorrected VA). Intermediate VA after surgery was 0,09±0.09. Before surgery, 50% of patients had binocular near visual acuity of J1, 10% of J1.5, 20% of J2 and 20% of J3, all cases requiring correction. After surgery, 50% had binocular near visual acuity of J1, 20% of J1.5, 20% of J2 and 10% of J3, without correction. No patient required distance glasses, and only 20% required near correction. At 3 months after surgery, mean OSI value was 3,73±1,58 and mean MTF was 15,3±7,9. Only one patient complained of glare. All patients declared to be satisfied with the surgical outcome.

Conclusion

Precizon Presbyopic® lenses, besides giving good distance and intermediate vision, seem to also provide good functional near vision, allowing most patients to obtain glass independence. Only one patient complained of disphotopic phenomena, and all patients were satisfied with the surgical outcome.
