Purpose

The purpose of the study is to describe a traid of signs that define the end point of viscoaspiration, when done from the anterior chamber in front of the IOL.

Setting

Saatvi keye hospital, Vadodara, India

Methods

The triad FAS, describes three signs, 1. the F stands for a fluid wave that passes behind the iol as the viscoaspiration progresses. This sign defines the removal of the OVD behind the lens, essentially avoiding the need to go behinf the IOL.2. the second sign, A , stands for the anterior movement of the lens. the sign defines the total empyting of the capsular bag of any OVD and deifnes the endpoint of viscoaspiration from the bag. Together the first two sings provide the visual cue to the show the epmtying of OVD from the bag. 3. finally the S stands for the shallowing pf the chmaber. This sing shows a shallowing of the chmaber and visual contracture of the pupil , defining the total removal of the OVD from the anterior chamber. Together the sign marks the end of visco aspiration.

Results

Viscoaspiration is an important step for the succesful refractive outcome of the catarct sugery , especially since the EPL expected lens position defines the final emmetropia status of the eye. Often the OVD left beind the bag can casue an posterior shift of EPL and even cause IOP spikes. Uusally a behind the lens aspiration is advised but is often met with chllanges in small pupil phaco or in difficult surgery, where its not possible to go behind the lens. The FAS triad provides a reliable triad of visual cue that can be seen even if viscoaspiration is attemped from the anterior chmaber itself. This triad not only shows helps in completing the viscoaspiration from the anterior chmaber itself but defines the end point for it.

Conclusion

The FAS triad not  only demonstrates the possibility of removing the OVD at the end of cataract surgery without the need to go behind the IOL but also  describes the end points in form of visual cues, if done form the anterior chamber.
