Purpose

The work carried out in the Outpatient Surgery Unit of the Ophthalmology Integrated Responsibility Center (CRIO) from Hospital Garcia de Orta (HGO), aims to minimize the risks such as clinical, environmental, literacy, social, lack of postoperative support... to which patients proposed for ophthalmic surgery are exposed and intervene preventively and adequately on the same. Their early detection improves the results obtained, which translate into health gains.

This communication aims to make known the reality experienced in the CRIO of the HGO with the perioperative follow-up of Nursing, from its implementation to the gains obtained in health.

Setting

This is a descriptive work of the experience lived in CRIO’s Ambulatory Surgery Room from HGO.

Methods

The Nursing assessment of the potential risks for the user begins in the perioperative period, with the preoperative Nursing Consults, in which all importan data are collected. A care plan is instituted that meets the needs in Nursing care diagnosed in this initial contact, the time of admission is agreed and the contact of the companion is confirmed.

This Nursing intervention on the potential risks continues on the surgery day, through the reception of the user where the fasting verification is carried out. Prevention remains in the operating room, through the identification of the user and the team, environmental control (temperature, humidity, waste, hygiene of the space and equipment), adequate positioning on the surgical table, confirmation of the surgery and respective laterality, verification of sterility of DMs, equipment operation and electronic safe surgery registration. This Nursing follow-up is reinforced in the post-operative period through the teaching provided to the person and the caregiver and the delivery of an explanatory pamphlet.

This follow-up does not end with the surgery, it continues until 72 hours later, through telephone contact and a post-operative Nursing consultation, where the information perceived and apprehended on the day of the surgery is validated, existing doubts are clarified, the plan is updated. of individual care and early diagnosis of complications, with appropriate referral for consultation or urgency of Ophthalmology, if applicable.

It is also intended to improve literacy, promote autonomy and readaptation to the new situation.

Results

The perioperative nursing follow-up, with this structuring of the pre and postoperative consults, began in January 2022, so it becomes an important indicator to assess its impact on the well-being and health gains of users throughout this year.

Conclusion

This work represents an important milestone in the nurse's autonomy in the perioperative period in Ambulatory Ophthalmological Surgery at CRIO, reinforcing the importance of the Nurse's role in promoting autonomy, in the prevention of complications and early referral in case of warning signs.
